Top Ten Tech Tips

1. Laptop users - unplug the power from your laptop each evening. Run on full battery power in the morning until you are prompted to plug into AC power. By using the battery, you are keeping it strong and powerful.

2. Keep you SMART Board clean with original Windex. This is the only cleaning product endorsed by SMART Technologies. Please refrain from using anything other than Windex.

3. Dust is an LCD projector's enemy. When you are prompted to clean your filter, please ask for help and accomplish this simple task. Bulbs are expensive and must have nice airflow to keep cool. There are dustbusters and canned air available at both campuses.

4. While we're talking about dust - it's a good habit to dust out your keyboards and around the fan of your computer. Dust is a big deal and can actually cause a fire!! If you have a laptop, close it each evening.

5. Tie up your cables. Keep your workstation safe and neat by using the velcro ties provided at the faculty meeting. Tripping over cables can hurt you and your computer :-(

6. BACK UP YOUR FILES! Jesus saves, everyone else makes back up copies. Everyone has a network folder, most people have thumb drives/flash drives/memory sticks.... Always have two copies of important files. I've begun backing up files to Google Documents when I want to have a copy of something available to me from any workstation. There are many ways to have back up copies so that all is not lost during a crash. (believe me, a crash will happen to you)

So, there you have it - a post of SIX SUPER SUGGESTIONS. When I originally planned to write this post, I envisioned TEN Tech Tips ( I liked the alliteration and was convinced there were at least 10 things we all need to keep in mind. Well my friends, I can only think of 6 - which makes this post short and sweet!
Make it a great day!
