Technology Handbook - Tech Team

Part of our responsibility this year is to create a technology handbook for teachers. (don't worry, it won't be a book)

Please ponder the topics that should be included in a technology handbook. What resources do teachers need to be successful implementors of technology?

What pieces of information should be available to first year teachers (and the rest of us forgetful folks) so that we are well informed in regards to the availablility of hardware and software?

Please have a conversation with your grade levels or building and post your comments here.

Please visit that link for ideas. http://savcps.com/staff/lower/tech/tech/What topics on this site should we keep? What should be added? What do teachers need at their fingertips that directly relate to their jobs here at SCPS Lower School?

Aileen will post comments from our teachers. My additions are:
1-Include FAWeb "how to" - troubleshooting and using from home
2-How to set up equipment (projectors, smartboards, etc.)
3-General info on logging in (example: at DA, workstation only must be left "unclicked" or you won't be able to access the network)
4- Explain various network drives and what's available on them (LSCL, J: shared drive, etc.) Even with current teachers, there's a lot of confusion in this area.
5-General info on GMail, Google Calendar, Google Shared Documents. Maybe how to set up a gmail account.
Will think of more and sent later!

At the resource teacher meeting today the following ideas were shared:
1. FaWeb - and entering conference notes and conduct infractions
2. Using the J:drive
3. SMART Board Tools
4. Weblinks
5. Available hardware and software
6. Passwords
7. Caring for your workstation
8. Etiquette for online collaboration and email
9. Copyright - Legal and Ethical Use of information
10. Reading Counts information
11. Using the Card Catalog

We also decided that it would be wise to research available technology handbooks that other schools have published.

Topics:
Internet sites that we have licenses to and the passwords

On the site under fifth grade plans change Elton to Gainer.

We loved the organization of the site...could tell a lot of work has been put into the site.
